Welcome to Caring For Postal Families Website

Thank you for visiting our Web site. To begin, we would like to take the opportunity to give you the history on how we came into existence.

In 1987 the West Palm Beach, Florida Postal Service had two employees who had cancer and were unable to work. A rummage sale was held on their behalf collecting $8000.00. It was then that a decision was made to organize a program that would collect and assist employees in similar situations. Thus, Caring for Postal Families became a reality.

When a postal employee is unable to work and has exhausted all their leave they go into a Leave without pay status (LWOP). The employee will remain in good standing for 26 pay periods (one year). Unfortunately, they are not collecting any salary either.

It is this 26 pay period time that Caring for Postal Families is there to help postal employees in the 334, 349 and 329 Zipcode areas..  Once an application is completed and you qualify, this organization will send you a check in the amount of$500.00 every two weeks. Because we are a non profit organization the money is tax free. You will be required to submit a copy of your paystub prior to receiving a check. This is the only way that we can determine if you are receiving donated leave.  If you receive donated leave, it puts you into a pay status, negating us from paying you.

We will also assist an employee who has a immediate family member who is ill and it requires them to be absent from work while attending to their needs. The employee would have to exhaust, or nearly exhausted their annual leave. An immediate family member would be spouse, children, or parents.  Once you have exhausted your annual leave, we will assist you for a total of 13 weeks.  We will pay you based on the amount of LWOP you have up to a total of $250.00 every two weeks.

Once the employee qualifies for disability retirement, or they are no longer on the rolls of the Postal Service, or use all 26 checks they are no longer be eligible for our assistance.

All donations to this organization come by postal employees donations to this organization through their Local Combined Federal Campaign (United Way) pay roll deductions. We also receive donations occasionally from the public and private donations. Basically Caring for Postal Families is just that, postal employees helping fellow employees who are less fortunate.

The years 2004-2005 have been very tough on our organization.  Like many agencies we struggle financially.  This is why the amount paid out in 2005-2006 was so small.  We are striving to keep us alive and appreciate the help from all the employees in the 334,349, and 329 zipcodes.  YOU are the reason that we are still here.  Thank you for your support.  We are slower increasing our funds and are once again taking applications.

Please consider our organization when the Brevard County and Treasure Coast Combined Federal Campaign is coming around. We are always located under Local Unaffiliated Organizations in the yearly book.
